Cornwall Garners All-UAA Honors

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance over the weekend at the Kenyon College Invitational. It marks the second straight week that a Tartans earned the honor.

In singles play, the Cornwall reached the finals of flight B, but the match was not played due to an opponent injury. The sophomore started with a three-set victory against Nicole Cardwell of Case Western Reserve University, 6-7, 6-0, 10-5, before topping Ilana Blackwood of Kenyon, 6-4, 6-2, to reach the finals.

In doubles play, she teamed with freshman Bin Zheng in flight A. The tandem won the flight after posting an 8-6 win against Madeleine Paolucci and Savannah Bright of Case Western Reserve in the opening round and an 8-5 win in the final against Daria Beshentseva and Erika Oku of Kenyon.

The Tartans will next compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Tournament on Saturday, September 21 through Monday, September 23 at the University of Mary Washington.
