Taylor Repeats as ITA Southeast Singles Champion

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) repeated as the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Champion on Monday, September 23 and will once again play for the doubles championship later this week.

Three of the four semifinalists in singles came from the Tartans roster as Taylor faced off against freshman Lauren James (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / Pine Crest School) and senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) played Claire Coleman from the University of Mary Washington. Rao won her first set against Coleman before the second-year player from Mary Washington rallied for two wins to advance to the finals, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

On the other side of the bracket, first-seeded Taylor ran into ninth-seeded James who had a pair of three-set wins to reach the semifinals. Taylor used her experience to defeat James, 6-0, 6-0, to reach the finals.

Taylor won her second straight ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship by defeating Coleman, 6-0, 6-4.

The doubles final, which will pit Taylor with senior teammate Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) against Carnegie Mellon teammates sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy), will be played this week on Carnegie Mellon's campus.
