Tartans Conclude Play at ITA Oracle Cup

(ROME, Ga.) - Play continued on Friday for four members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Oracle Cup. The event is being played at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) started the day with a straight set victory in the consolation half of the bracket. The sophomore won 6-1, 6-1 over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Emma Cartledge of Emory University.

Senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) paired with Taylor in doubles, as the tandem won their first consolation match on Friday with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Risa Fukushige and Chanhtel Thongphok of Skidmore College. Ollis and Taylor then defeated the duo of Alexa Goetz and Christina Watson from Emory, 1-6, 6-1, 10-8, to conclude play.

The Cardinal and Gray second doubles team of sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) dropped their consolation match, 7-5, 6-2, to Daria Beshentseva and Erika Oku of Kenyon College. The pair then defeated Grace Riermann and Maggie Riermann of Bethel College, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
