#5 Tartans Record Seventh Shutout with Win at Westminster

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis traveled to New Wilmington on Tuesday afternoon and defeated Westminster College 9-0 to record the seventh shutout of the season. The Tartans stay unbeaten and move to 11-0 while the Titans drop their first match of the season and are 4-1 overall.

Doubles play started with the Tartans second and third tandems winning 8-0. Freshman Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) and sophomore Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) won at three to take the first point followed by senior Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and junior Ola Wojciak (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel). The sweep was completed when the Cardinal and Grays top tandem of junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and sophomore Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) won 8-3.

Qiang made the score 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles before freshman Victoria Tankova (Toronto, Ontario / Lorne Park Secondary School) recorded the winning team point at the six spots with a straight set shutout winning 6-0, 6-0.

The Tartans will be idle until Sunday, April 18 when they entertain Division I Duquesne University.
