Four Players Named to All-UAA Women’s Tennis Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches on Monday with recognition on the 2021 UAA Women's Tennis All-Association Team. All four garnered both singles and doubles recognition.

Junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway), sophomore Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy), freshman Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) and sophomore Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) were honored at first, second, third and fifth singles, respectively. Cornwall and Zheng paired in doubles and were honored for the top spot while the tandem of Abdelmoneum and Qiang were named to the squad for their play at third doubles.

Cornwall, named as an individual for the NCAA Championships, ended the season with a singles record of 11-4 including an 8-3 mark in the first position this year. She was joined at the NCAA Championships with Zheng, as the doubles pair advanced to the quarterfinals on their way to being named All-America and ended the season with a 12-4 mark. In singles play, Zheng compiled a mark of 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the second spot. This marked the second straight season Cornwall and Zheng have received the honor for singles and also the second in doubles for Cornwall.

The duo of Abdelmoneum and Qiang had a record of 11-1 and were perfect at 8-0 at the third sport. In singles play, Abdelmoneum ended the year with a mark of 8-3 while Qiang becomes the second player in program history to record a perfect single-season record in singles play with a minimum of 10 matches played with a 16-0 mark. The other time occurred during the 1996-97 season when Keri Mills went 15-0.
