Women's Tennis Opens 2022 With 4-3 Loss to Division II Slippery Rock

(WEXFORD, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened its 2022 season with a 4-3 setback to Division II Slippery Rock University on Friday. The event was held at the indoor courts at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania, while playing by Division II game scoring. The Tartans are now 1-1 while the Rock go to 1-0.

Carnegie Mellon's third doubles team of freshmen Ava Givone (Delray Beach, Fla. / Oxbridge Academy) and Simran Bedi (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) opened with a 6-1 win before the Tartans top tandem of senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) claimed a 7-6 (0) win to secure the doubles team point.

Slippery Rock won four of the six single matches to claim the 4-3 win. The Tartans two wins came at the second and third spot. Givone won 6-4, 6-1 at two with Zheng winning 6-2, 6-1 at third singles.

The Tartans will be back on the courts Saturday, February 5, when they entertain Division I Saint Francis University at 2:00 p.m.
