Tartans Sweep Two Matches to Move to 4-1

(WOOSTER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to Wooster, Ohio, to play two matches against Division III opponents, The College of Wooster and John Carroll University, on Sunday, February 13. The Tartans moved to 4-1 with a pair of 9-0 wins.

The first match of the day was against the host Fighting Scots. The Tartans started with a quick sweep of doubles play with two 8-0 wins at third and second doubles with an 8-1 win at first doubles.

Senior Victoria Chang (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) was first to finish singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles. Freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) sealed the match win with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Two of the other four singles matches also ended in 6-0, 6-0 wins for the Tartans.

In the second match versus John Carroll, the third doubles team of freshman Simran Bedi (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) and freshman Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview) won 8-1 before senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) won 8-0 at second doubles. The sixth doubles win of the day for the Tartans came at first doubles from sophomore Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) and junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) by an 8-3 score.

Chang was again the first to finish singles play, this time at fifth single by the same 6-0, 6-0 score. The match point came from Wu at sixth singles, as she also won 6-0, 6-0. 

The Tartans will next play Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 19.
