#11 Tartans Win Fifth Straight With Blanking of #23 Johns Hopkins

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 11th in the latest Division III ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, defeated 23rd-ranked Johns Hopkin University Sunday afternoon, 9-0. The match was played at the University of Mary Washington, as the Tartans move to 12-4 with Johns Hopkins now 4-4.

For the fifth time this season, the Cardinal and Gray swept doubles. The third tandem of junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) and freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) clinched the sweep with an 8-3 win. The Tartans first point game at the second spot with senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) winning an 8-0 match with the top tandem of senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) securing the second point with an 8-3 victory.

Zheng opened the scoring in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the four spot and the Cornwall sealed the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at third singles.

The Tartans will entertain Division I Duquesne University on Friday, April 15.
