Five Women Selected to UAA Women’s Tennis All-Association Team

May 16 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Five Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players were selected to the 2022 University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis All-Association team. The Tartans finished third at the UAA Championship and completed the season after reaching the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship with a 16-7 record.

Four Tartans earned first-team accolades with three selected to the second team and another named honorable mention. First-year Tartans, Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview) and Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) were named to the first team at singles with senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) earning the honor for their doubles play.

Cornwall was recognized on the second team for her singles play with Zhou and senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) collecting a second-team selection for doubles play. Zheng was also recognized for her singles play with an honorable mention selection.

Yang won her only finished match at the UAA Championship against Emory's first singles player and finished her first year with a 26-4 singles record. Zhou, who won the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship in the fall, completed her first year with a 21-8 singles record.

Cornwall and Zheng won the ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship in the fall and had a 14-7 record at first doubles in dual-match action. The pair finished with a 25-8 showing, including two wins in the NCAA tournament.

In singles play, Cornwall earned an 11-2 record at third singles for the year, including a 2-1 mark at the UAA Championship. For the year, Cornwall won 20 singles matches and concluded her career with 120 combined victories.

Wu and Zhou started their doubles pairing in February and won 13 matches including victories against Emory and Case Western Reserve in the UAA Championship.

Zheng picked up a 17-8 overall record in singles play with a 9-6 mark at fourth singles, winning twice during the UAA Championship.

Cumulatively, the UAA honors are the third at singles and doubles for Cornwall, the third for Zheng in singles and second for doubles, and the first for Wu in doubles but is her second honor overall.
