Yang Ends Year in Round of 16 of NCAA Singles Championship

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis freshman Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview) earned All-America honors at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championship by advancing to the Round of 16. The championships are being held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Yang won her opening-round match, 6-4, 6-3, against junior Kelsey Dorr of St. Catherine. Yang's victory gave her 27 for the season in singles play while Dorr finished her year with a 13-3 mark.

Yang advanced to the Round of 16 to face sophomore Nina Ye of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Ye topped second-seeded senior Jackie Buzkin of Amherst in the first round, 6-2, 6-0.

Against Ye, Yang won the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-5) before Ye forced a third set with a 6-1 win. Ye took a 2-1 lead in the final set and led 5-3 before breaking Yang's serve for the final 6-3 score and victory.

By winning her first match, Yang earns All-America recognition and marks the 14th time a Tartan women's tennis player has won a match at the NCAA Singles Championship.
