Guevel to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Two Events
(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships to be held May 23-25 in La Crosse, Wisconsin hosted by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The junior will compete in two events, the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles.
Earlier this season at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, Guevel claimed the individual title in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles for the second time in her career, the last coming in her freshman campaign. Her season best time of 14.43 in the 100-meter hurdles came at the championships while she turned in a season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles of 1:01.96 at the Gator Invitational held by Allegheny College.
Her time in the 400-meter hurdles ranks 12th in Division III while her time ranks 13th in the 100-meter hurdles.
Guevel will compete Thursday at 5:05 p.m. CT in the trials of the 400-meter hurdles before running in the trials of the 100-meter hurdles on Friday evening at 5:05 p.m. CT. The finals are set for Saturday, May 25 with the 100-meter hurdles being run at 3:15 p.m. CT and the 400-meter hurdles at 4:45 p.m.
As a freshman, Guevel raced in both hurdles events at the NCAA Championships and earned All-America distinction in the two events, a rare feat as not many athletes attempt to run both, let alone qualify for the finals in both events.
