Freshmen Lead Tartans at Ohio State Tune-up
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to Columbus, Ohio on Friday for strong Division I, II, and III competition in the Ohio State Tune-up.
Freshman Sommer Farber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) led the Tartans with a career-best performance in the triple jump. With a hop, skip and a jump, Farber landed in the sand finishing the day with a mark of 9.76 meters and sixth place.
Fellow freshman, Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless), had her debut in the 200-meter dash. Fortner crossed the line in 30.35 seconds and is looking to improve on that time as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships are just a week away.
Freshman Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) had a season-best performance in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.06.
Representing the throwers in the shot put, junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) led the field with a season-best throw of 10.44 meters.
Coming off some strong performances, the women are looking forward to traveling to the UAA Championships at Brandies University this upcoming weekend.
