Tartans Open Season at Al Hall Freedom Games

(EDINBORO, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team began the season at the Edinboro University Al Hall Freedom Games.

Seniors Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Sara Kelly (Madison, Wis./West) finished the mile run in sixth and seventh place, respectively, with times of 5:30.19 and 5:33.93.

Sophomore Sommer Farber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was second in her heat of the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 10.10. Freshman Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) finished sixth overall and first in her heat of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.17.

Sophomore Jerilyn James (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook), in her first meet with the Tartans, finished 12th in the 60-meter dash in 8.55 and 14th in the 200-meter dash in 28.24. James also competed in the high jump, clearing 1.44 meters for 11th place.

In the 3,000-meter run, junior Zofia Tillman (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) finished fourth with a career-best time of 10:57.85, as junior Sophie Lohmann (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) was seventh in 11:12.22.

Senior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) leapt 5.15m in the long jump to finish second and threw the shot put 10.36m to finished 13th. Senior Lauren Maturo (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) topped Spalding's throw with a mark of 10.38m.

In the high jump, sophomore Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) finished tied for third, as she cleared 1.54m.

The Tartans will next compete at the Denison College Lid Lifter on Saturday, January 24.
