Spalding Sets School Record in Long Jump at Tiffin Dragon Open

(TIFFIN, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio, for the Dragon Open on Saturday, February 14 at Tiffin University. The Tartans won four events for the meet.

Senior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) set a school record in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 5.31 meters, and finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in a season-best 26.60 seconds.

Freshman Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) won the 400-meter dash in a season-best time of 1:00.16 while senior Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) won the mile run in 5:17.61. Senior Sara Kelly (Madison, Wis./West) placed third in the mile run in 5:27.35. Both Kiekhaefer and Kelly ran career-best times.

The 3,000-meter run was swept by the Tartans, as junior Zofia Tillman (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) won in a career-best 10:47.13. Junior Sophie Lohmann (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) was second in 10:57.04 with junior Kira Ragazzo (Frederick, Md./Urbana) finishing third in 11:06.99. Lohmann and Ragazzo also ran the best times of their career.

Sophomore Sommer Farber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.16 seconds while the 4x400-meter relay team placed third with a time of 4:19.10.

Sophmore Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) matched her career-best in the high jump, placing tied for third, clearing 1.60 meters. Freshman Jerilyn James (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook) finished tied for fifth, clearing 1.50 meters.

In the pole vault, freshman Sarah Miholer (Stow, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) cleared 2.75 meters to place fifth.

The Tartans will next compete on Friday, February 20 at Ohio State University.
