Yee Sets School Record in Pole Vault

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – Sophomore Grace Yee (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) set the school record in the pole vault to lead the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team at the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University on Saturday, April 18. Fourteen teams from all three divisions competed at the event.

Yee's career-best mark and school record in the pole vault came when she cleared 3.21 meters. The record was previously held by Lisa Marion Garcia from 2011 and was 3.10 meters. Yee finished tied for sixth in the event.

Freshman Jerilyn James (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook) put in a career-best run in the 100-meter dash, finishing the race in 12.93 seconds and a career-best jump clearing 1.48 meters in the high jump. Junior Taylor Maggiacomo (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) recorded a season-best 12:33.16 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing sixth in the event as the only Division III runner to compete.

Junior Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci & Tech) ran the 1,500-meter run in 5:01.66 to finish fifth while junior Liz Snyder (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) finished seventh in 5:06.79.

Freshman Luise Bering (Berlin, Germany) recorded a career-best mark of 4.80 meters in the long jump while freshman Kiersten Chuc (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) tossed the shot put 8.33 meters for a career-best.

The Tartans will next head to Atlanta, Georgia, for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. The meet will take place at Emory University on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26.
