Tartans Compete at Ohio State and Mount Union

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Ohio State University Tune-Up on Friday and the University of Mount Union Raider Tune-Up on Saturday.

Sophomore Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) won the mile run when she finished in a career-best time of 5:08.03 while senior Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:16.27 at Ohio State.

Senior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover , N.H. / Hanover) raced to a career-best time in the 3,000-meter run when she finished 15th overall in 10:19.32. Senior Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) had a season-best mark of 5.02 in the long jump and finished the 60-meter dash in 8.22 seconds.

On Saturday at Mount Union, sophomore Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) took first place in the pole vault after clearing 3.53 meters on her first attempt. Senior Sarah Miholer (Stow, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) took fifth with a height of 3.23 meters.

Junior Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) recorded a mark of 10.09 meters in the triple jump to place fourth and 4.85 meters in the long jump to place fifth.

In the mile run, sophomore Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) placed fifth in a time of 5:29.08 while sophomore Rachel Reolfi (North Canton, Ohio / Canton Central Catholic) placed eighth in 5:33.81 and freshman Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) placed ninth in 5:36.01.

Sophomore Leah Kendrick (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.71 with sophomore Joanna Baranowski (Syosset, N.Y. / Syosset) was fifth in 9.84 seconds.

Freshman Valerie Reiling (Concord, Mass. / Concord Carlisle Regional) earned a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.42 while sophomore Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:28.17.

Next up for the Tartans is the University Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, February 24 and 25 hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
