Bhanja Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Carnegie Mellon University senior track and field athlete Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) is set to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for excelling academically and athletically while showing leadership and commitment to the community. Twenty-one males and 21 females across all three NCAA divisions were chosen as recipients for the spring sports.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2019 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list for the 23rd consecutive year. A total of 113 men's teams and 184 women's teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better for the 2018-19 academic year.

Juniors Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as Google Cloud Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-America selections. Karabin, a first time representative, landed a spot on the first team with Lindsey honored as a second team selection after garnering third team accolades a year ago.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women’s track and field teams had 17 Mideast All-Region honors awarded to its athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2019 outdoor track and field season. Thirteen represent the men while four represent the women with two men receiving multiple honors.

Gary Aldrich, head coach of the Carnegie Mellon University track and field teams, has been named to the U.S.A. coaching staff as the Throws Coach for the 2019 NACAC (North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association) Under 23 Championships this summer. The event will take place in Queretaro, Mexico, from July 5-7. This marks Aldrich's sixth coaching stint on the international stage.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team won its annual Carnegie Mellon Quad on Saturday. The Tartans scored 232 points, defeating second place Westminster College who finished with 143.50 points. The women turned in 13 first-place finishes and swept four events as a team.
