Tartans Compete at SRU Open (SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) - The

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to the Slippery Rock University Open on Thursday. The Tartans turned in many top performances including several personal-best performances.

Junior Leah Kendrick (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) turned in a personal-best performance in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.15. Kendrick also competed on the Tartans' 4x100-meter relay team of senior Claire Yuan (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook), sophomore Valerie Reiling (Concord, Mass. / Concord Carlisle Regional), Kendrick, and Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) which placed second in a time of 50.50. Reiling also placed fifth in the 400-meter run in a time of 1:01.

Bhanja took fourth in the 100-meter in a time of 12.61, while Yuan placed fifth in 12.96. In the 800-meter run, junior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) placed fourth with a time of 2:29, and freshman Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taf) took sixth in 2:34.

In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Diva-Oriane Marty (Tokyo, Japan / American School of Japan) placed third in 1:12, while junior Keegan Barone (Chicago, Ill. / Latin School of Chicago) took fourth in 1:16. Junior Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:15.

Senior Tessa Allen (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Bishop Montgomery) placed fourth in a tie clearing 1.48 meters. Allen also tied for second in the triple jump with 10.64 meters, while senior Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) placed fourth with 10.32 meters. In the pole vault, junior Michelle Karabin took third in a four way tie with a height of 3.53 meters.

Hair took third in the long jump with 5.22 meters, and freshman Sami Johnson (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) placed fourth with a jump of 4.89 meters.

Freshman Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) threw 36.36 meters in the discus for a third place finish. In the hammer throw, senior Alexa Barriero (Middletown, N.J. / Middletown North) placed fourth with a toss of 40.09. Barriero also took third in the javelin with a throw of 37.36 meters.

The Tartans will travel to Atlanta on April 27 for the University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Emory University.
