Karabin Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Carnegie Mellon University senior women’s track and field athlete Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) has been selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for excelling academically and athletically while showing leadership and commitment to the community. Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women across all three NCAA divisions. Karabin becomes the second Carnegie Mellon women’s track and field athlete to receive the scholarship, as Debarati Bhanja earned the honor in 2018-19.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2020 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list for the 24th consecutive year. A total of 209 women's teams and 150 men's teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better for the 2019-20 academic year.

Carnegie Mellon University track & field student-athlete Michelle Karabin and Emory University soccer student-athlete Shivani Beall have been selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) representatives for NCAA Woman of the Year.

Seniors Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) and Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-America selections. Both land a spot on the first team, as it marks the second straight season Karabin was named to the top team. This is Lindsey’s third straight honor, first on the top team, as she was named a second team selection last season and garnered third team accolades following her sophomore campaign.

Gary Aldrich sat in front of a black and white television screen at his grandparents’ house in 1968 and dreamed of one day marching with Team USA in the Olympics opening ceremony. This year Aldrich, head coach of Carnegie Mellon University’s track and field teams, may get the chance to live that dream after being named men’s throws coach for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
