Giordani Tops 200m Record at IUP

(INDIANA, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Invitational on Sunday, April 11. Sophomore Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) topped her own school record in the 200-meter dash to lead the Tartans for the day.

Giordani finished second in the 200-meter dash against a mix of Division I and II runners with a time eight hundredths of a second faster than her previous record time in 25.14. The sophomore also finished second in the 100-meter dash in 12.24 which is .01 off her record mark.

Freshman Megan Baker (Exton, Pa. / B. Reed Henderson) won the 3,000-meter run in 11:32.26 while junior Krsiten Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) was eighth in the 5,000-meter run in 18:47.37.

Junior Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taft School) sprinted to a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run finishing in a career-best time of 2:20.13.

Graduate student Joanna Baranowski (Syosset, N.Y. / Syosset) placed 12th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.95 and also finished in the same place in the 400-meter hurdles when she crossed the finish line in 1:08.25.

Senior Madeline Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) was 11th in the 1,500-meter run in 5:11.58.

Top performances in the field events came from senior Ally Tully (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) who finished ninth in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 42.91 meters, sophomore Francine Leung (Port Jefferson, N.Y. / The Stony Brook School), and Junior Visakha Ho (Rolla, Mo. / Rolla). Leung competed in the long jump and triple jump where she placed 12th in both with marks of 5.02 meters and 9.77 meters, respectively, while Ho was seventh in the pole vault after clearing 2.90 meters.

The Tartans will next compete at Slippery Rock University on Friday, April 16.
