Tartans Place Third at UAA Indoor Championships, Highest Finish in Program History

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team recorded its best-ever finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The Tartans placed third with 74 points.

Junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) won the high jump after clearing the bar at a personal-best height of 1.65 meters. Classmate Serena Li (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) cleared the bar at 1.47 meters and took seventh. Barre then ran a personal-best 9.11 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to place fifth.

Junior Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.37. Also, after tying the school record in the trials of the 60-meter dash, the junior once again tied the record when she sprinted across the line in 7.83 seconds to place third.

Freshmen Taylor Symonette (Westport, Conn. / Staples) and Katie Monahan (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) placed sixth and eighth in the shot put. Symonette recorded a throw of 11.42 meters while Monahan tossed the element 11.03 meters. Classmate Jocelyn Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) took eighth in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 10.66 meters.

Sophomore Isabella Rhee (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) turned in a fifth-place showing in the 400-meter run when she crossed in 59.99. Senior Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont./ The Taft School) placed sixth in the mile run after crossing in a personal-best time of 5:09.93. Senior Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) placed eighth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:17.30.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Rhee, Jacobs, Barre and Giordani closed the championships with a third-place finish to earn All-UAA recognition after crossing in 4:00.12.

The Tartans will next compete at the All-Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Nazareth College on March 4-5.
