Tartans Compete at Westminster Invitational

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Westminster Invitational over the weekend in a field comprised of Division II and III athletes with junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) competing at the Messiah University Invitational on Thursday and Friday in the heptathlon.

Graduate student Kendra Noneman (Eagle, Idaho / Eagle) claimed the lone top finish for the Cardinal and Gray with a throw of 56.57 meters in the hammer.

Two other top three finishes were recorded in the field events with junior Serena Li (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) placing second in the long jump with a leap of 5.00 meters and senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) throwing the discus 38.57 meters to place third.

On the track, the Tartans finished second and third in the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Alyssa Hoffman (Watsontown, Pa. / Warrior Run) crossed in 18:36.05 with classmate Lauryn McKenna finishing in 18:38.14.

Barre won the heptathlon with 4,319 points. The junior recorded top finishes in the 100-meter (15.59), high jump (1.60 meters), 200-meter dash (27.06) and long jump (5.25 meters) while recording a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 9.69 meters and took third in the javelin with a mark of 25.84 meters and the 800-metre run after crossing in 2:39.91.

The Tartans will next compete at the Carnegie Mellon Last Chance Meet Thursday, April 14.
