Tartans Compete at Opening Day of UAA Outdoor Championships, Noneman Wins UAA Title in Hammer

(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships on Saturday hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. After the first day of competition, the Tartans are in fifth with 27 points. The WashU leads with 96 points.

Graduate student Kendra Noneman (Eagle, Idaho / Eagle) claimed the lone UAA title on Saturday with a throw of 58.51 meters in the hammer. In the javelin, senior Agnes Zhou (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) took sixth with a throw of 32.43 meters.

Junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) placed third in the long jump breaking the school record with a jump of 5.48 meters. The junior tops the previous mark of 5.47 meters set by Debarati Bhanja in 2016 and Sasha Spalding in 2014. Also, competing in the long jump was senior Sami Johnson (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) who finished seventh with a jump on 5.03 meters.

Graduate student Michelle Murray (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run after crossing in 37:52.26.

The final day of the championships will begin with field events at 10:00 a.m. CT on Sunday, April 24.
