Tartans Compete at Saint Francis University Red Flash Open

(LORETTO, Pa.) - Members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Red Flash Open hosted by Saint Francis University on Saturday, April 30.

Junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) tossed the javelin 24.75 meters to place 16th and tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.58 meters. Barre also ran the 200-meter dash in 25.77 seconds to place fifth. Her time in the 200-meter dash is a career-best and is fourth best in program history.

Junior Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.25 seconds and second in the 200-meter dash, setting a new school record in 24.74 seconds.

Sophomore JoJo Huczko (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) placed second in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters to mark her top clearance during the outdoor season.

Junior Ola Owodunni (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) placed 13th in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 39.30 meters.

Freshman Katie Monahan (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) was sixth in the shot put with a distance of 11.81 meters, 10th in the discus with a mark of 35.04 meters, and 15th in the hammer throw with a mark of 38.77 meters.

Freshman Taylor Symonette (Westport, Conn. / Staples) placed 10th in the shot put with a mark of 10.81 meters.

Freshman Kayla Rountree (New Haven, Conn. / James Hillhouse) was 12th in the javelin with a distance of 30.09 meters while senior Agnes Zhou (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) placed 15th with a distance of 26.16 meters.

Senior Ashley Zhang (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) cleared 2.90 meteres in the pole vault to place eighth.

Freshman Jocelyn Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.46 meters.

Next up for the Tartans is the West Virginia University Last Chance meet on May 6 and 7.
