Record Number of Tartans Selected to 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team had three athletes earn selection to the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships set to be held from May 26 through May 28 at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. This marks the most individual entries to be selected for the same championship in school history for the Tartans.

Junior Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) will compete in both the 100-meter race and the 200-meter race after competing in the 200-meter race during the indoor season. Giordani just set new school records in both events at the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships with times of 11.90 seconds in the 100-meter and 24.11 seconds in the 200-meter, where she ranks fifth nationally and third nationally, respectively. Giordani will be the third Tartan to compete in two events at the same championships meet and the first since 2013 when Jacqueline Guevel did it for the second time.

Graduate student Kendra Noneman (Eagle, Idaho / Eagle) will compete in the hammer throw and is just the third women's athlete to compete in an outdoor field event, and the first in the hammer throw, on the national stage for the Tartans. Noneman currently leads the nation in the hammer throw with a school-record throw of 60.15 meters.

Junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) will compete in the heptathlon and is the first Tartan to reach the national meet in the event. Her current score of 4,545 is 11th in the country. Barre earned All-America honors in the pentathlon this year at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships by placing seventh.

The start time for events will be released on Wednesday, May 25.
