Giordani Advances to 200-Meter Final at 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships in School Record Time

(GENEVA, Ohio) – Junior Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) of the Carnegie Mellon women's track and field team topped her own school record at the first day of the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day championships are being held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Giordani competed in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash, the first of two events for her at the championships, and won her heat and had the second fastest time in the preliminaries. The junior crossed in 23.96, topping her previous school record time of 24.11, to advance to the finals. The finals of the 200-meter dash will be on Saturday at 2:40 p.m.

Following four events of the heptathlon, junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) is currently in sixth in the field of 22 with 2,965 points. The junior recorded a career-best throw in the shot put Thursday afternoon of 10.02 meters with her highest finish event coming in the high jump and 200-meter dash. The junior cleared the bar at 1.61 meters and tied for fourth in the high jump and closed the day with a career-best time of 25.65 in the 200-meter dash to place fourth.

Barre will start the day for the Tartans on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with the final three events of the heptathlon. Giordani will run in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash at 3:30 p.m.
