Tartans Compete at UAA Round Robin #2

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed at the University Athletic Association (UAA) second round robin held at the University of Rochester on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16.  The Tartans dropped matches to the host Yellowjackets, #3 Emory, Case Western Reserve and #16 Chicago to move their record to 12-11 overall and 2-5 in UAA play.

On Saturday afternoon, the Tartans lost 3-0 to both Rochester and Emory.  Sophomore Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) and freshman Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led the offense for the Tartans.  Miller recorded 11 kills against Rochester while Celentano led the way with seven in the setback to Emory.

Senior Emily Baddock (Houston, Texas/Dulles) and sophomore Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) each had a team-high seven digs against the Yellowjackets while Wrght led the defense against Emory with six digs.  Wright finished Saturday with a combined 37 assists in the two matches and added three service aces.   

On Sunday, the Cardinal and Gray started play with a 3-0  loss to Case before falling 3-1 to Chicago to end the round robin.  Senior Maddie Rosnick (Fallingston, Pa./Pennsbury) tallied 11 kills against Case while Celentano added eight.  Wright picked up 22 assists and sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) collected 11 digs.

In the Tartans final match of the weekend against Chicago, Miller totaled nine kills and added five service aces. Rosnick had seven block assists and freshman Taylor Bell (Shelby Twp., Mich./Detroit Country Day ) recorded six. Wright tallied 17 assists, as Nichols recorded 12 digs in the setback.

The Tartans will travel to Huntingdon, Pa. on Saturday, October 22 to play Juniata College at 3:00 p.m.
