Tartans Split A Pair of Matches Saturday

(BALTIMORE, Md.) – The Carnegie Mellon volleyball team traveled to Baltimore, Maryland Saturday, October 29 to play a pair of matches at Johns Hopkins University.  The Tartans left Maryland splitting the matches with a 3-0 setback to the Blue Jays before defeating the University of Mary Washington 3-1.  The Tartans overall record is now 14-13.

In the opening match loss, senior Maddie Rosnick (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) led the way with seven kills while freshman Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) added five.  The Tartans total four service aces in the match with Rosnick picking up one of them as well as fellow seniors Kristin Castellano (New Canaan, Conn./Taft) and Emily Baddock (Houston, Texas/Dulles) along with sophomore Kerry Hennessy (Walnut Creek, Calif./Bentley).

Sophomore Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) picked up 22 assists and Baddock led the defense with nine digs.

In the nightcap against Mary Washington, sophomore Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) totaled 15 kills while Risnick and sophomore Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) each added nine and eight, respectively. Wright added 34 assists while recording a service ace and eight digs.

Sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) tallied 18 digs in the win while Miller added nine. Also contributing defensively was Baddock and Mora, who each added eight digs while Mora led the Tartans with two block solos.

The Tartans will next be in the Big Apple for the University Athletic Association Championship on Friday and Saturday, November 4-5 as New York University is the host of the 2011 University Athletic Association championships.
