Tartans Win Last Home Match 3-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University offense proved to be too much for Frostburg State University in a 3-1 win on Wednesday, October 26, in non-conference volleyball action in Pittsburgh. The Tartans move to 13-12 on the year while the Bobcats drop to 15-17.

In the last home match of the season for the Tartans, where the seniors were honored for their time on the court, Carnegie Mellon put Frostburg away with 25-20, 25-18, and 25-17 wins despite falling in the third game 25-21.

Senior Maddie Rosnick (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) picked up seven kills for the match and five block assists to add to her career totals. Fellow seniors Kristin Castellano (New Canaan, Conn./Taft) and Emily Baddock (Houston, Texas/Dulles) provided tight defense with 15 and six digs apiece.

Additionally on offense, freshman Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led the force with 21 total kills while sophomore Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) hit .394 with 17 kills. Miller also picked up 13 digs defensively and recorded four service aces.

Sophomore Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) tallied 29 assists, five digs, one block solo and two block assists as freshman Taylor Bell (Shelby Twp., Mich./Detroit Country Day) grabbed seven assists, three kills, one block solo and three block assists. Freshman Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) took the lead as libero for the night, totaling 14 digs and two service aces, both of which came during an eight-point run in the final game.

The Tartans will next compete at Johns Hopkins University where they face Gettysburg College and University of Mary Washington on Saturday, October 29, at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
