Tartans Sweep Friday Matches at Marcia French Memorial

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon women's volleyball team opened play at the Marcia French Memorial Invitational Friday, September 6 with a pair of wins.  The Tartans started the night with a 3-0 win over Capital before going five sets against John Carroll to win 3-2 and improve to 6-1 on the season.

In the win over Capital, junior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) recorded team highs of 14 kills, 10 digs and two service aces.  Senior Mary Stadelman (Washington, Pa./Trinity) recorded a career-best seven kills in the win while sophomore setter Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) tallied 24 assists.

Celentano also led the Tartans with 16 kills in the nightcap win over the Blue Streaks, tying a season-high.  The junior added five block assists and a career-high four service aces.  Senior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) added 15 kills marking the fifth match this season she topped the double digit mark while tallying four block assist and two block solos.

Senior Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) recorded a season-best 17 digs in the victory while senior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) totaled a career-high seven block assists and added five kills.

Lawlis, recorded a career-best of 43 assists in the five set match with 10 digs. Freshman Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) ended the bout with a total of six blocks, two solo and four assists while registering six kills.

The Tartans will continue play in the Marcia French Memorial Invitational on Saturday with matches against Medaille and Geneva starting at 10:00 a.m.
