(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the Wid Guisler Invitational at Juniata College on Saturday, October 26. Junior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) recorded her 1,000th career kill on Saturday as she recorded a total of 22 kills in the two matches putting her career tally at 1,012. The Tartans now have an overall record of 21-8.
Carnegie Mellon started the afternoon with 3-2 victory over Johns Hopkins University winning 14-25, 25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10. Celentano and senior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) both recorded 10 kills in the win to lead the Tartans attack. Sophomore setter Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) picked up 18 assists. Defensively, Celentano totaled seven blocks, two solo, while freshman Casey Salandra (Carol Steam, Ill./St. Francis) had a career-high seven block assists. Senior Ali Nichols led with 10 digs and added three service aces.
In the Tartans nightcap, they dropped a 3-1 decision to the 11th-ranked Eagles of Juniata. The Tartans lost the first two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-15 before taking the third 25-23. The Eagles were to strong winning the fourth by the score of 25-15. Celentano led the Tartans with 11 kills, as Parsa once again added 10. Freshman setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) collected 18 assists in the setback. Nichols ended the match with 14 digs.

The Tartans will be back in action on Wednesday, October 30 when they entertain Mt. Aloysius at 7:00 p.m. on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium.
