Gibbons Pulls in UAA Honor

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore volleyball player, Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Athlete of the Week after leading the Tartans to a 4-1 week.

Gibbons, a middle blocker, tallied a career-high nine blocks (two solo, seven assists) while putting down six kills in the Tartans 3-1 upset win over fifth-ranked University of Mount Union on Friday, September 19 on the first night of the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational. The Tartans also defeated University of Mary Washington 3-1 and La Roche College 3-1 during the tournament, while beating Marietta College 3-1 on the road Wednesday, September 17.

For the week, Gibbons led the Tartans in hitting percentage (.273) with 31 kills and in total blocks with 23.

The Tartans return to the court on Sunday, September 28 at the College of Wooster for a tri-match with DePauw University at 2:00 p.m. and Wooster at 4:00 p.m.
