Volleyball Blanks Franciscan
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted Franciscan University Wednesday, October 15 and won 3-0 (28-25, 25-19, 25-15). The win improves the Tartans record to 18-4 while the Barons are now 8-15.
Carnegie Mellon was led by senior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) with nine kills on senior day. Freshman Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added to the offense with eight kills while sohpomore Casey Salandra (Carol Steam, Ill./St. Francis) chipped in with six.
Freshman setter Amanda Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) along with sophomore setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) combined for 27 of the Tartans 30 assists. Thiele handed out 14 while Newton had 13. Newton also contributed with a team-high three service aces. Sophomore Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led the defense with 19 digs
The Tartans will return to UAA play at University of Chicago where they will open a four-game weekend against the Maroons on Saturday, October 18 at 12:30 p.m. CT.
