(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team traveled to Juniata College for the Wid Guisler Invitational on Friday, October 24. The Tartans fell by a 3-2 score to Stevenson University to open play and are now 21-6 on the year.
Senior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led the Tartans with a season-high 18 kills. Sophomore Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) also reached double digits in kills with 10 while sophomore setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) had 36 assists.
Defensively, sophomore Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 28 digs as Celentano had 15 and freshman Hannah Wooten (Hughson, Calif./Hughson) picked up 11. Freshman Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) stood tall at the net with two block solos and three block assists while Celentano collected five block assists.
The Tartans return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they face 10th-ranked Juniata. The Tartans then will play a second ranked opponent on Saturday as they go head-to-head with 19th-ranked Eastern University at 3:00 p.m.
