Tartans Face Two Top 20 Teams at Juniata

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team matched up with No. 10 Juniata College and No. 17 Eastern University on Saturday, October 25 at the Wid Guisler Invitational hosted by Juniata. The Tartans fell 3-0 to Juniata and 3-1 to Eastern to move to 21-8 on the year.

The Tartans won the first set against Eastern by a 25-23 score before the Eagles rallied to win 25-16, 25-9 and 25-17. Sophomore Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) had 20 assists for the match and 10 digs while sophomore Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 17 digs. Senior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led with nine kills while freshman Shalani Stockton (McAllen, Texas/McAllen Memorial) had four kills with no errors.

Against Juniata, freshman Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) tallied 11 kills while sophomore Kristen Flint (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) put down five kills. Newton finished with 18 assists as freshman Hannah Wooten (Hughson, Calif./Hughson) had 12 digs.

The Tartans will end the regular season at Allegheny College on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m. before hosting the University Athletic Association Championship Tournament on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8.
