Four Record Double-Digit Kills in 3-2 Loss to Allegheny

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team closed out its regular season with a tough 3-2 loss at Allegheny College on Saturday, November 1. The Tartans are now 21-9 on the season and host the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship next week.

The Tartans forced a third set after Allegheny won the first two by 25-16 and 25-22 scores. The third set was won by the Tartans, 25-18, before they tied the score at 2-2 with a 25-18 fourth set win. However, Allegheny was able to finish off the match with a 15-11 fifth set win.

The Tartans put down 58 total kills with four players recording double-digits. Sophomore Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) led with 15 while sophomore Casey Salandra (Carol Steam, Ill./St. Francis) tied a career and season-high with 13. Freshman Shalani Stockton (McAllen, Texas/McAllen Memorial) and freshman Genevieve Parker (Orlando, Fla./The First Academy) each recorded career-highs with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Sophomore Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) picked up 34 assists with freshman Amanda Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) collecting 10 assists.

Sophomore Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 27 digs as junior Taylor Bell (Shelby Township, Mich./Detroit Country Day School) had 20 digs. At the net, Gibbons led with four block assists and one block solo as Newton and Bell each had three block assists. Bell also collected a block solo.

The UAA Championship will begin Friday, November 7. The Tartans are seeded third for the tournament and will face New York University at 2:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
