Donohue Named All-Tournament as No. 22 Tartans Win Twice Saturday Afternoon

(ELIZABETH, Pa.) – The 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team competed at the 2015 Days Inn Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown College Saturday, September 19 and came away with a pair of 3-1 victories.  The Tartans started the day against McDaniel before topping University Athletic Association foe Rochester to improve to 14-1 on the season.

Against McDaniel, junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) totaled 19 digs and freshman Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas) had 15. Four Tartans collected double-digit kills with junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and freshman Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) leading the charge with 11 each.  Sophomore Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn.) both chipped in with 10.  Gibbons also tabbed three service aces while junior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) recorded 39 assists.

In the nightcap victory over Rochester, Gibbons and Donohue ended with 10 kills apiece and Newton tallied 35 assists. Gibbons also had five service aces.  Higgins finished with 22 digs and Newton with 12. At the net, Gibbons and Donohue each had three block assists while Newton had a block solo and two block assists. Donohue was named all-tournament.

The Tartans next will play Franciscan at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23 in Steubenville, Ohio.
