(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in fifth place after defeating the University of Rochester, 3-0, on Saturday, November 7. The Tartans close the regular season with a 27-7 record.
In the 3-0 win, the Tartans won game one 25-19 before winning game two 25-12 and game three 25-21. A total of 39 kills were put down by the Tartans who hit .330 for the match.
Leading the Tartans was junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .611. Fellow junior Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) collected 26 assists in the win while junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 14 digs. At the net, sophomore Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had three block assists and two block solos.
The Tartans will now wait to hear their postseason fate on Monday, November 9.
