Gibbons Garners AVCA All-America Honors

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – Junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team earned All-America Honorable Mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), as announced early this week.  

Gibbons was named to the AVCA All-North Region Team last week and becomes the Tartans' fifth All-America honoree and first since 2010.  The junior also was selected to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team last week.

Gibbons appeared in all 134 sets played during the regular season, marking the third straight season she has done so. She led the team with a hitting percentage of .349, which ranked fifth in the UAA, along with 364 kills and 2.72 kills per game.  The junior finished second on the team with 81 blocks and 33 service aces. She tallied a career-best 18 kills in the Tartans' victory over nationally ranked Mount Union.  On 21 occasions this season Gibbons recorded double-digit kills.
