(DANBURY, Conn.) – Senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) and freshman Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team received recognition by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) following their week of play.  Higgins was named Corvias ECAC South Region Libero of the Week while Yew was named Corvias ECAC South Region Rookie of the Week.

Carnegie Mellon has started the season with a 7-1 record and is currently ranked 14th in the latest Division III Top 25 poll released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).  The ranking marks the highest in school history, as the previous high was 19th during the 2002 campaign.

Last week, Higgins and Yew played a vital part for the team, as the Tartans posted a 3-1 record including two wins over top-10 opponents, then ranked No. 8 Wittenberg and No. 9 Christopher Newport, at the Juniata Asics Invitational over the weekend.

Higgins was named to the All-Tournament team at the Juniata Asics Invitational, as she tallied 54 digs and collected six service aces and now leads the team with 20 service aces in eight matches played. Four of her 20 service aces came mid-week in a 3-0 win against Saint Vincent where she also tallied 20 digs to total 74 in four matches played.

Yew recorded 19 digs including a season-best eight in the Tartans' 3-0 win over Christopher Newport University. The freshman also recorded two service aces in the Tartans' 3-1 setback to No. 2 Juniata.

The Tartans will host Franciscan University on Wednesday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium
