(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team played in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship match for the third time in school history on Saturday, November 5 but suffered a 3-0 defeat to eighth-ranked Emory University. The Tartans now have an overall record of 25-7 while the Eagles moved to 30-5.
The Eagles won set one by a 25-18 score before winning sets two and three by 25-17 scores.
Senior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) led the Tartan offense with nine kills while junior Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had six. Senior Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) collected 22 assists while senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) had 16 digs.
The Tartans will now tune into the NCAA Selection Show at 12:30 p.m. to see if they'll receive an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship which will begin play on Thursday, November 10 or Friday, November 11 at campus sites.
