Yew Garners UAA Weekly Award

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Sophomore libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week. Yew helped the 10th-ranked Tartans to a 4-0 mark at the UAA Round Robin #2 including two wins over ranked opponents (3-1 win over #13 Chicago and a 3-2 win over #4 Emory).

Yew totaled 105 digs for the week and extended her double-digit dig streak to 29 games dating back to last season. She recorded a career-high of 39 in the Tartans' win over #4 Emory while also recording 32 in the Tartans' win over #13 Chicago. Additionally, Yew had seven service aces for the round robin.

The Tartans, who have a record of 22-1 and 6-1 in UAA play, will enter the Association Championships as the top seed.

Carnegie Mellon will continue its season at home on Friday, October 20, when it hosts Denison University at 8:00 p.m. on the opening day of the Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational.
