#6 Tartans Drop Tight Match to #21 Juniata in Five

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked sixth nationally, hosted the Eagles of Juniata College on Tuesday and dropped a five-set match. The loss moves the Tartans record to 25-1 while Juniata is now 20-7.

After dropping the first-set 25-18, Carnegie Mellon took the second 25-21 and then battled for a 31-29 win in set three to take a 2-1 edge. The Eagles did not go away, as they won the fourth-set 25-21 before outlasting the Cardinal and Gray 15-10

Four Tartans recorded double digit kills with junior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) leading the way with 16. Senior Heather Holton (Haslett, Mich.) put away 14 with senior Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and sophomore Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) recording 11 and 10, respectively. Aqui hit .438 to lead all attackers.

Sophomore Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) handed out 31 assists and had 22 digs while senior Amanda Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) recorded 19 assists.

Sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) led with 33 digs followed by So-Holloway and then Mueller with 18. At the net, the Tartans had three players recorded four block assists each in Aqui, Donohue and Holton.

Carnegie Mellon will conclude it regular season schedule on Friday and Saturday, October 27-28 when they compete at the Eastern University Quad. The Tartans will play the host Eagles Friday at 7:00 p.m.
