#24 Tartans Start Home Schedule with a 3-0 Win Over W&J

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team, ranked 24th nationally, opened its home slate season with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-12, 25-21) win over Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday. The Tartans even their record at 2-2 with the win while the Presidents are now 1-4.

Nine different Tartans registered kills with senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) led all attackers with 11. Senior Lizzy Thrasher (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) had six kills, while a trio of Tartans tabbed five; senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) and juniors Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) and Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).

Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) ended the match with 33 assists. Mueller recorded four service aces and freshman Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) finished with two aces.

Junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) turned in a season-best 23 digs with senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) and Mueller also recording double digit in digs with 13 and 10, respectively.

The Tartans will next travel to Juniata College where they will open play against third-ranked Wittenberg University on Friday, September 7 at 5:00 p.m. in the first night of the Juniata Asics Invitational.
