Volleyball Extends Win Streak to 11 with a Pair of Wins to Open UAA Play

(WALTHAM, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play with a pair of wins on Saturday to extend its winning streak to 11 matches. The UAA Round Robin #1 is being hosted by Brandeis University. The Tartans opened with a 3-1 (30-28, 11-25, 29-27, 25-13) win over New York University before topping the University of Rochester 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-17). The Cardinal and Gray are now 13-5 overall and 2-0 in UAA play.

In the win over NYU, senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) led with 18 kills and hit .361 while senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) recorded 16 kills. Junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) added nine kills.

Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) dished out 38 assists and had two service aces. Foose along with junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) each added three aces and senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) had two.

Yew led the Tartans with 27 digs. So-Holloway finished with 13.

Jurgens again led the Tartans with 13 kills in the win over Rochester while hitting .407. Mueller ended the match with nine kills. Foose hit .714 with five kills and freshman Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) hit .375 with six kills.

So-Holloway compiled 31 assists and 11 digs while Yew had 19 digs and Mueller had 17 in the win. Foose recorded an additional two service aces.

The Tartans continue UAA play on Sunday with a 12:00 p.m. start time against seventh-ranked Emory University.
