Career Highs Recorded as Tartans Split Action at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened play in its mini invitational Friday night against Alma College and Arcadia University, splitting action with a 3-2 win against Alma and 3-1 loss to Arcadia. The Tartans are now 17-8 on the season.

Against Alma (18-3), the Tartans won sets two and three before Alma forced a fifth set with a 25-23 set four victory. The Tartans then won the match by a 15-13 fifth set score. Senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) put down a career-best 24 kills while junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif. / Sacred Heart Cathedral) dished out a career-best 58 assists. As the Tartans hit .247 as a team, senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn. / Eagan) had 16 kills and junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa. / Parkland) collected 12 kills with a .310 hitting percentage.

On defense for the Tartans against Alma, junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif. / Sacred Heart Cathedral) had 24 digs while Mueller picked up 20 digs and So-Holloway 18 digs. Junior Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla. / Archbishop McCarthy) had two block solos to go with five block assists with Jurgens helping at the net with four block assists.

The Tartans fell behind against Arcadia before tying the match at one set apiece with a 25-13 set two win. Arcadia then picked up set wins of 25-18 and 25-20 to finish off the match. So-Holloway picked up 45 assists while Mueller had 22 kills with Jurgens putting down 11 kills. Mueller led with 17 digs, as Yew dug up 16 Arcadia attack attempts. Aqui led at the net with three block assists.

The Tartans will continue play at home on Saturday with matches against St. Mary's (IN) College at 1:00 p.m. and North Park University at 3:00 p.m.
