Tartans Close Home Invitational with Two 3-0 Wins

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team closed its home invitational on Saturday, October 20 with two 3-0 wins, defeating Saint Mary's College, 25-18, 25-20, 25-13, and North Park University, 25-18, 25-14, and 25-21. The Tartans are now 19-8 for the season.

In the first match of the day against Saint Mary's, the Tartans hit .279 and forced the Belles into a hitting percentage of .152. Twelve block assists aided in that hitting percentage for the Belles, as junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif. / Sacred Heart Cathedral) led the Tartans with four. So-Holloway also aided in the Tartans offense with 35 assists. Those assists were spread throughout the team with freshman Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) leading with 10 kills. Senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn. / Eagan) had nine kills, senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) had eight kills, and junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa. / Parkland) had seven kills. Junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif. / Sacred Heart Cathedral) led the team with 15 digs while Mueller picked up 11 digs.

Against North Park, the Tartans put down 44 kills and hit .292. Mueller led with 14 kills, as Jurgens and Foose joined her in double figures with 12 kills and 10 kills, respectively. So-Holloway had another 35 assists while Yew picked up 17 digs. Junior Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla. / Archbishop McCarthy) had four block assists with Jurgens collecting three block assists.

The Tartans will be back in action on Friday, October 26 at home against Ithaca College at 7:00 p.m.
