Tartans Take Down Point Park, 3-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball hosted the Pioneers of Point Park University on Wednesday night on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium. The Tartans improve to 11-1 with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18) win over the Pioneers who move to 9-2.

In the first set, the Tartans trailed 12-7 before scoring eight straight points off the serve of senior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) in which she recorded two of her three aces on the night. From that point, the Cardinal and Gray cruised to the three-set victory.

Junior Diana Balta (Media, Pa. / Penncrest) led the Tartans with 10 kills followed by senior Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) with eight and sophomore Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) with seven.

In all the Tartans recorded nine service aces. Behind So-Holloway's three was senior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) and freshman Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) with two each. So-Holloway and Yan recorded 26 of the Tartans 35 assists, as the senior handed out 16 and Yan tabbed 10.

Yew was the top Tartan in digs with 15 while So-Holloway added 15. At the net, Aqui and Balta both had two block assists with Aqui adding a solo.

Next up for the Tartans is the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 to be played at Brandeis University. The first of three matches will start at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21.
