Yew Garners Second UAA Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif. / Sacred Heart Cathedral) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after her performance during the team's final home stand this past weekend.

Yew helped the 19th-ranked Tartans to a 4-0 mark over the weekend with a pair of 3-0 victories at home on Friday along with a 3-2 and 3-1 victory on Saturday. Yew totaled 95 digs, 6.33 digs per set, over the four matches. The senior turned in a season-best 36 digs in the Tartans' 3-2 win over regionally ranked SUNY-Geneseo on Saturday afternoon. Yew also recorded five service aces over the weekend. Yew continues to lead the UAA in digs with 520 and now has 2,238 for her career, ranking third in school history. She needs two more to move into second all-time and 118 for the top spot.

The Tartans will next face New York University in the opening round of the UAA Championship tournament on Friday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. The tournament will be played at the University of Chicago.
