Tartans Land Four on All-UAA Volleyball Squad

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team when the squads were announced Wednesday. Senior libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) was named to the first team while senior middle blocker Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and sophomore opposite Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) were named to the second team. Senior middle blocker Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) garnered honorable mention honors. This marks the fourth straight year that at least four Tartans were named to the All-UAA squad.

Yew, a three-time All-UAA honoree, leads the UAA with 586 digs and 5.53 digs per game. Her 32 service aces ranks fourth on the team. She currently ranks second on the school's all-time digs list with 2,304 and needs 53 more to become the program's all-time leader. The senior has recorded double-digit digs in 28 of 29 matches played this season, including a season-high 36 against SUNY-Geneseo.

Foose repeats as a second-team honoree from a year ago and leads the team and ranks second in the UAA with a .361 hitting percentage. The senior also is tops on the team with 236 kills, 2.25 kills per set, 76 block assists, and 89 total blocks. She has recorded double-digit kills in 11 matches this season including a season-best 15 at Brandeis.

Beaudoin ranks second on the team with 222 kills, 2.18 kills per game, and a .276 hitting percentage. The sophomore has totaled 70 blocks and 59 block assists, which ranks third best on the Tartans. She has recorded seven double-digit kill matches with three coming in UAA play and a career-best 16 against regionally ranked SUNY-Geneseo.

Aqui led the team with 14 solo blocks while being tops in the UAA with six block solos in league play. The senior finished the regular season second on the team with 79 total blocks and 65 block assists. Aqui totaled 197 kills, which ranked third on the Tartans and recorded a career-best 12 kills at Westminster.

Carnegie Mellon will play Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday, November 15 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
